Time:2015-08-17  Source:KLMM

The Symposium on Curves and Surfaces in Computer Aided Geometric Design was held in China National Convention Center (CNCC) on August 13 in 2015. The symposium is aimed at bridging between people who are working theoretically on curves and surfaces in algebraic geometry and those who are endeavoring to seek for suitable modeling forms of curves and surfaces in Computer Aided Geometric Design. More than sixty people attended the symposium, including researchers from universities and research institutes in America, Israel, Spain, Korea, as well as from domestic universities including University of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Zhengjiang University, University of Science and Technology of China and Harbin institute of technology.

The symposium was co-chaired by Prof. Xiaohong Jia (associate professor of Academy of Mathematics and Systems Science, Chinese Academy of Sciences), Prof. Jinsan Cheng (associate professor of Academy of Mathematics and Systems Science, Chinese Academy of Sciences) and Prof. Ron Goldman (professor of department of computer science, Rice University), with the opening statement delivered by Prof. Xiaohong Jia. The symposium approaches the theory and applications of curves and surfaces from the different aspects of algebraic geometry and geometric modeling. Recent developments of the Syzygy theory of curves and surfaces were delivered by talks from the famous algebraic geometer, prof. Davix Cox from Amherst College in United States, prof. Jerome Hoffman of Louisiana State University in United States, Prof. Carlos D’Andrea of University of Barcelona in Spain and Prof. Haohao Wang of Southeast Missouri State University in United States. The state-of-the-art applications of geometric modeling were delivered by talks from Prof. David Levin of Tel-Aviv University in Israel, Prof. Ron Goldman of Rice University in United States, the vice president of Seoul National University in Korea, Prof. Myung-Soo Kim as well as Prof. Gershon Elber of Israel Institute of Technology. Domestic researchers including Prof. Jinsan Cheng, Prof. Xiaohong Jia, Prof. Xuhui Wang of Hefei University of Technology and Prof. Hongwei Lin of Zhejiang University also presented their recent work on geometric modeling.

The Symposium on Curves and Surfaces in Computer Aided Geometric Design  is an Embedded Conference of The 8th International Congress on Industrial and Applied Mathematics (ICIAM2015), which is hosted by the KLMM, Academy of Mathematics and Systems Science, CAS, funded by the NCMIS; AMSS,CAS; ISS,CAS;KLMM,CAS. The symposium has promoted communications and cooperation between domestic and foreign research institutes and has well connected curves and surfaces related theory in algebraic geometry with their applications in geometric modeling.
