Abstract: Scientific Visualization intends to provide insight to massive amounts of numerical data, both qualitatively and quantitatively. This talk discusses tensor fields as a complex type of data beyond vector fields, their applications in theoretical physics, medical imaging and geosciences. A visualization method is presented to allow visual data analysis superior to alternative methods. It is demonstrated by means of computer graphics how this method is able to depict up to six quantities per point in a visually pleasing and insightful way, thereby enabling ways to read off complex property of large observational or computational datasets.
